Natural Stone Patio Pavers

Natural stone—including flagstone, slate and granite—is an ideal choice for a patio thanks to it’s organic, all-natural feel. For Georgia residents, hard, water-resistant rocks such as granite (like our Carolina Buckcreek) or slate will withstand tough weather conditions and temperature/ moisture fluctuations. Sandstone and limestone options offer a beautiful look, but can be susceptible to scratches. Finally, slate provides a dramatic aesthetic, but can flake in wet areas. In general, however, any type of natural stone paver is a durable and reliable option for your patio.

Sand and Gravel for Patio Bases

The Stone Store is your one-stop-patio-project-shop with a variety of other materials you might need. We have affordable options for sand for your paver installation project, as well as gravel, mulch, soil and more for any other landscaping needs.

Manufactured Stone and Concrete Patio Pavers

Concrete pavers are a solid go-to for easy, cost-effective patio projects. As compared to stone, concrete pavers can be a little more foolproof for the DIY homeover than natural stone. We offer a wide variety of concrete pavers in various sizes and shapes. Modular concrete pavers allow for a variety of creative configurations for a custom look. Our manufactured stone veneer options give elevated look to patio walls and other vertical elements with easier installation.

What is the best paver material for Georgia patios?

The northeast Georgia climate can be wet and hot, and many customers wonder which patio paver materials will stand up best to this climate. Generally, several different types of natural and manufactured stone pavers will work well for Georgia and other southeast states, but some have certain benefits. Concrete pavers can be an excellent choice for allowing water to permeate into the ground below. Concrete pavers are also a good choice for hot climates as they may stay cooler to the touch than certain natural stone options like slate. On the other hand, many natural stone options can be durable in any weather conditions. Keep in mind, however, some natural stone pavers with smoother surfaces (like slate) can become slippery in wet conditions.

What is the easiest patio paver?

There’s no easy answer for the easiest paver, because it depends on your overall design aim. For example, natural stone pavers have irregular shapes, which can be ideal for those looking for a more organic, less geometric aesthetic. In this case, you won’t necessarily need to adhere to strict measurements and compilations, which can make for an easier job. However, getting natural stone pavers to fit together relatively closely and in the space you need them too, can be a challenge—since they’re larger and not uniform. Concrete pavers, on the other hand, are easy in that they are uniform and modular, and can therefore be easily formed into various patterns and shapes. Concrete pavers are also smaller and more easily arranged around edges.

What other materials will I need for my patio paver project?

DIYers looking to build a patio with pavers are in luck—a simple, smaller patio is a relatively easy project that can be done in a weekend. Make sure you have the tools you’ll need—likely a spade/shovel, a tamper or compactor, a rake and/or broom. You’ll likely want a wheelbarrow or something similar to move your materials into the patio area as well. In addition to you concrete or stone pavers, you’ll likely need sand as your patio base.
